How to pre-order YOTEI on Kickstarter

On April 14, the pre-orders open on Kickstarter for the charming Japanese town building game – Yotei!

Yotei is a Machi building game for 2-4 players where you use potatoes as a currency to build the most enchanting Hokkaido town. Buy or bid on fields, forest and mountain plots, and harvest potatoes. Then use your resources to showcase the undeniable charm of the north – serve ramen, host a potato festival, open a ski resort or a serene hot spring!

The game offers a perfect blend of tactics and strategy that gives players a satisfying peek into life in Hokkaido, Japan.

Step-by-Step: How to join the Kickstarter campaign

  1. Follow the campaign to get notified at launch
  2. Pledge in the first 48 hours to help the campaign become a success!
  3. Wait for an email inviting you to set up your shipping info
  4. Wait until you get an email to announce that your game is on the way
  5. Bring Japan to your table by playing Yotei!

1. Follow the Yotei campaign

Following a Kickstarter campaign takes just a few seconds, and it guarantees you’ll receive a notification the moment the campaign goes live. If this is your first time on Kickstarter, you’ll have to create a Kickstarter account. Having an account allows you to back games, get access to backer-exclusive updates and more. Note: Try to sign in manually, by using an actual email. Avoid signing in automatically with your Apple ID – Apple ID logins are known to bounce back our invitation emails, because they create a temporary, automated email address.

To follow the Yotei campaign, go to this link and click on “Notify me on launch”. This campaign will go live on April 14, so you can expect an e-mail about the campaign launch on that day!

2. Pre-order on Kickstarter

What does pledging or backing a game mean? It basically means you pre-order a game on Kickstarter – a crowdfunding platform where you can support creative projects (by “backing” them) to help bring them to life. You pre-order the game on the campaign page, get charged when the campaign successfully finishes and will be asked for your shipping information when the games are ready to be sent from the factory.

Backing a game on Kickstarter means you get the game before it hits the local shops and often you get a lot of exclusives with it that you’ll never find in stores!

Once the campaign is live, choose a reward, or pledge level, from the right-hand side of the page.

A Kickstarter campaign usually offers different pledges. Every pledge level includes a list of items you’ll get if you pledge at that level. In the upcoming Yotei Deluxe Edition campaign, we are only offering a gorgeous Deluxe Edition of this game. You can see what’s so nice about in the What’s in the Box section.

Click ‘Continue’, check the amount, and click ‘Pledge’.

You have now selected the game you want to pre-order. Only at the end of the campaign, on May 5th, your credit card will be charged for your order.

3. Wait for an email inviting you to set up your shipping info

A couple of weeks after the campaign ends, you’ll get an email inviting you to the pledge manager, where you can manage your pledge. In the pledge manager, you can confirm or upgrade your pledge level, pay for shipping, and confirm your delivery address. You can check out the shipping cost estimates and more information about shipping zones on the Kickstarter campaign page (under “Shipping”). Your accurate shipping cost will be calculated in the pledge manager after the Kickstarter campaign ends.

4. Wait until you get an email to announce that your Yotei copy is on the way

Once the campaign is finished, we will start mass production of the games. During this time, we will keep you posted about the progress with Kickstarter updates. You will receive these automatically in your inbox when you’re a backer. Once the games have been printed, they will be shipped all over the world and you will receive an email with your tracking number.
